A PLACE OF ASPIRATIONS

A PLACE OF ASPIRATIONS [Mann Library @ Ithaca, NY]

Critic: Sheila Danko @ Cornell HumEc | Fall 2011 | Team Lead. Collaboration with Ryan Allen-Parrott, Daniel Levine, and Maria Paula Villarraga

A highly nuanced installation, A Place of Aspirations uses the inherent properties of the umbrella—the tensegrity of its material, the translucency of the fabric, the rigidity of its structure and its proportions and form—to convert undifferentiated umbrellas into a field of floating dandelion florets with aspirations raining down like autumn leaves. The installation is meant to inspire timelessness and transform an otherwise bare space into a place of hope and meaning—turning a passive milieu into an active and dynamic modifier that responds with the participation of observers.
